JENKS, Okla. — One of Jayden Patrick's biggest supporters has always been his grandfather, when the Jenks senior's grandpa passed away in the spring he knew he wanted to honor his legacy.

Lon Patrick was a veteran of the Tulsa Police Department. During 23 years on the force, he always asked for black socks for any occasion, so he could wear them to work. After his retirement, Lon continued to wear those black socks every day.

"Whenever he came to my football games, I would always see him in black socks," Jayden recalled.

So Jayden decided to wear black socks every day at practice in his senior season to honor his grandfather, but he didn't stop there.

"Right now we're trying to collect socks so we can give back to the community," Jayden said. "I didn't realize how much people needed socks until my mom told me everything about it."

Jayden and his family started a fundraiser called Solely Socks in Lon's honor. Throughout September 2020, everyone is welcome to donate socks to Jenks Bible Church on Saturdays and Sundays. The socks are being given to the John 3:16 Mission.

Collections are at Jenks Bible Church, 708 W Main St, Jenks, OK on Saturdays from 8-10 am and Sundays 9-10 am.

Or email Jayden at jaydenpatrick095@gmail.com to set up a way to donate.
