Philadelphia Eagles select University of Oklahoma left tackle Lane Johnson with No. 4 NFL draft pick

NEW YORK - It didn't take long for Oklahoma's Lane Johnson to hear his name called in this year's NFL draft.

With the fourth overall pick, the Philadelphia Eagles selected the former junior college tight end and quarterback to solidify its offensive line.

Johnson rose through the ranks of the elite in the months following the Sooners' season, posting impressive combine numbers and reportedly interviewing well.

Johnson's presence should be a welcome addition to an Eagles line decimated by injuries a year ago, and will have the important task of protecting oft-injured quarterback Michael Vick.

The Groveton, Texas product was the third tackle taken in the first four draft picks, following Central Michigan's Eric Fisher and Texas A&M's Luke Joeckel.

Johnson was the only player from Oklahoma's universities projected to be drafted in the first round.
