U.S. Geological Survey reports 3.0 magnitude earthquake in southern Oklahoma; no injuries, damage

COALGATE, Okla. (AP) -- The U.S. Geological Survey has recorded a small earthquake in southern Oklahoma.

The USGS reports that a 3.0 magnitude quake was recorded shortly after 6 p.m. Monday about 8 miles west of Coalgate -- about 150 miles southeast of Oklahoma City.

The Coal County Sheriff's Office says there are no reports of injury or damage.

Geologists say earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 to 3.0 are generally the smallest that are felt by humans and that damage doesn't usually occur with earthquakes below magnitude 4.0.
