TULSA, Okla. -- Union Public Schools is investigating a deadly threat at the 6th/7th grade center.

Parents reached out to 2 Works for You, saying the post talked about shooting other students. Union staff said they're aware. Administrators have reported it to police and they'll increase security on Friday.

The violent social media threat sparked rumors that now has school officials investigating everything from guns to gang violence.

"My daughter was scared, terrified about going to school. A lot of her friends are afraid of going to school tomorrow too," parent Jessica McConnell said.

A call went out to families Thursday evening, asking people to report any information they may have. But some parents said they wished administrators reached out sooner.

"If there is something serious that's going on at the school that involves your children, you should let the parents know before they have to find out for themselves because how can you trust the school if they don't do that?" Amber Lindsey said.

Both families said they're keeping their kids at home on Friday, and they don't believe they're alone.

"You can never say this isn't going to happen to me or my child or my child's school. I'd rather be safe than sorry," Lindsey said.

As this follows threats nationwide, some even reported to police.

"Everything that happened in Florida... I don't want it to happen here. I'm going to protect my jelly beans. My babies are my jelly beans," McConnell said.

Staff at Union said they don't believe the threat is credible, but they're taking every precaution to keep students and educators safe.
