Turn Tulsa Pink set to hold May 6 golf tournament; proceeds from event will fund TTP scholarship

Turn Tulsa Pink is gearing up for its second annual golf tournament, slated May 6.

The tournament is scheduled to be held at Meadowbrook Golf Club.

Proceeds from the tournament allow for Turn Tulsa Pink to offer scholarships to Tulsa County students who have been affected by cancer.

Last year's tournament enabled the organization to distribute $10,000 between four area students. TTP has set the goal even higher for its 2013 event.

The scholarship is open to students who have or have had cancer or have a household family member who is currently has or has had cancer. Applicants must live in or near Tulsa County and be entering college as a freshman in the fall 2013 or be presently attending college as an undergraduate in the fall of 2013.

Students can apply by submitting an essay about how cancer has affected their lives and career choices. At least four students will be chosen by a group of area judges to receive the scholarship funds.

"So many people in Oklahoma have been affected by cancer, and often funds are tight due to cancer affecting a family's finances being used for treatment," Judi Grove, director of Turn Tulsa Pink, said. "We want to encourage education for all young people. It's very important that students who have had cancer, or if their parents or siblings have battled cancer to take advantage of this scholarship opportunity."

Registration and sponsorship opportunities are open for the golf tournament. The deadline is March 31.
