TULSA, Okla. - Starting on Monday, teachers across Tulsa Public Schools will only be allowed to work hours within their contract. This means they won't be grading students' classwork outside of school nor returning parents' emails and calls.

This is part of the district's plan to grab lawmakers' attention about the dire situation of public education in the state.

A group of parents and teachers are planning to support teachers and welcome them at Mayo Demonstration Elementary School on Monday morning before classes start.

Teachers plan to 'work the contract' for the next two weeks.

If the state legislature doesn't take action and increase teacher pay by April 1, TPS's Superintendent Deborah Gist said they plan to partake in a state-wide school shutdown on April 2.
