Tahlequah man arrested for fatal shooting at his home; victim has not been identified

A Tahlequah man is in jail after the a dead body was found on his property Sunday.

Around 12:30 a.m., Tahlequah police received a call of a shooting on the 200 block of Basin.

Officers responded to the scene, joined by Tahlequah SWAT team, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Cherokee Nation Marshals and Cherokee County Sheriff's Deputies.

Juan Carlos Caballero was apprehended from his home and arrested.

A body was also recovered from the scene. Police have not been able identify the deceased male.

Officials believe the man died by a gunshot wounds.

Caballero faces charges of first-degree murder and possession of a controlled dangerous substance and is being held at the Cheorkee County Detention.

Liliana Landaverde, Caballero's girlfriend, was also arrested on possession of a controlled dangerous substance and failure to protect a minor child.

Tahlequah Police Department says the investigation is ongoing.
