Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon is an emotional and uplifting event for participants and organizers

The Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon is not your typical marathon.

This is a race with a special meaning.

It is a major fundraising event for the Oklahoma City National Memorial, but it also is way to remember lives lost, or changed on April 19, 1995.

This year there is added significance being that it is the first major U.S. marathon since the Boston Marathon explosions.

The organizers in Oklahoma City reached out to the people who were running in Boston.

They invited Boston runners to come to Oklahoma City and finish the race in Oklahoma. All fees for those runners are waived.

2News Anchor Russ McCaskey talked with Kari Watkins, the executive director of the Oklahoma City Memorial about this years race.
