NOWATA COUNTY, Okla. -- A Nowata County Sheriff's Office jailer was arrested by Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation Agents after they said he was driving recklessly on Highway 60 earlier this month.

Officials said on May 14, Thomas Kerr drove at least 121 miles per hour on Highway 60 as he was heading to Nowata to retrieve equipment for an officer.

Kerr was driving an unmarked vehicle equipped with red and blue lights in which he used to clear traffic, officials said.

Officials also said Kerr is not a certified officer and has had no official training in driving for law enforcement purposes. Kerr was arrested on a complaint of impersonating an officer.

Nowata County Sheriff Kenny Freeman said, “He drives the vehicle every day because he is in a type of an emergency capacity here at the office.”

Freeman says Thomas Kerr is the jail administrator and adds, “He has not been through CLEET, but that’s no different from any of your firefighters. They have not been through CLEET. Your reserve officers have not been through any type of driving training.”
