TULSA -- A gift that keeps on giving -- two women donate a hand cycle bike they used in the Route 66 marathon to a Tulsa man.
Kelly Hardy planned to compete with her friend Catharine in the Route 66 marathon, one year after Catharine was declared cancer-free.
Hardy then suffered a leg injury and thought it was the end of the road for the marathon.
She reached out to a high school friend who runs a fitness company for wheelchair athletes.
After raising some money on GoFundMe, they were able to buy a bike in Coweta through Craigslist
After the two completed the marathon in 2017, they wanted to donate it back to someone in the community.
Through a mutual friend, they met with Tulsa resident Torrel Miles today to let it come full circle.
"I want to be so fiercely independent, to do things by myself, but you know there’s sometimes you need help," said Miles.
"I think it’s a God thing it’s come full circle and for him to be in our community, that’s what we wanted, we wanted it to stay here," said Hardy.
Miles's family joined as the women donated the bike to him.
He plans to train hard and hopefully compete in future races.
