What is a Weather Alert Day?
Proven as Green Country's most accurate forecast team, the Storm Shield meteorologists are rededicating efforts to keep you ahead of wild weather.

"Weather Alert Days" are now an integral part of our commitment to keep you safe, informed and prepared. It's advance warning of weather that will significantly impact your daily routine.

Tornadoes and severe thunderstorms are just part of what a Weather Alert Day encompasses. We're also watching for extreme winter weather as well as high heat indexes and dangerous wind chills and extreme wildfire danger.

We'll declare weather alert days generally a full day in advance of the imposing system. Once that day arrives, our entire team will escalate to a heightened level of coverage.

On television, you'll see a Storm Shield icon at the bottom of your screen. That's your cue to stay with 2NEWS for weather updates across multiple media platforms. You'll see hourly updates on-air. If you haven't downloaded our 2 Works for You app or our Storm Shield app to your smart phone or tablet, now is a good time to do so, as we'll bring you expanded information on KJRH.com during Weather Alert Days.

Our Storm Shield app goes a step beyond and works like a weather radio, alerting you instantly of advisories, watches or warnings. And you can control which alerts you receive.

Social media also plays a big role in our effort, so be sure to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter.
