BATON ROUGE, La. - To call Monday night's game between Southern and Champion Baptist College a blowout -- would be like calling tonight's New Year's Eve celebration in Times Square a little get-together.
The final score of the contest -- make that "no-contest" -- was 116-12.
No need to do the math; that's a 104-point difference. And the game wasn't as close as the final score indicates.
Southern started the game by tallying the first 44 points of the game. That breaks the NCAA record for most consecutive points scored without a response from the opposition.
The halftime margin was 57-6 and Champion Baptist didn't register a point until there was about 5 minutes left in the first half.
If there's any consolation, the final margin of victory didn't set an NCAA record.
Back in 1997, Long Island University beat Medgar Evers 179-62 -- a 117-point margin.
