Rain postpones Viking Classic

Last Update: 10/29 11:33 am

The first round of the PGA Tour's Viking Classic was postponed Thursday without a shot being struck after heavy overnight rains left the Annandale course unplayable.

Tee times were pushed back twice in the morning before an announcement to postpone the round was finally made.

With a lousy weather forecast going forward, officials were weighing their options Thursday while setting a tentative schedule for the weekend.

The first round will be played on Friday and the second round on Saturday if the weather cooperates. There is an 80 percent chance of rain forecast for Friday and expected to last until Saturday morning.

If all goes as planned, the tournament would finish with 36 holes on Sunday when the weather forecast looks promising.

Although no PGA Tour event has been rained out since the 1991 Independent Insurance Agent Open, tournament officials have some options at the Viking Classic since there is no tournament scheduled for next week.
