In preparation for the track and field portion of the Olympics in Rio, 2 For The Gold decided to meet up with one of the greatest runners in the country who happens to be from Tulsa.

Madeline Manning Mims won the gold in the 800 meter in Mexico City in 1968 and remains America’s only gold medalist in that race.

Manning won a silver medal in the 4x4 100 relay at the ‘72 games in Munich as well.

“A delegate from the Nigeria government came to me and said ‘don’t you know you’re the one who opened the door for women of color all over the world, to run distance,’” said Mims.
