Sooners, Cowboys, Golden Hurricane head west for opening round

For the first time in 11 years, three Sooner State teams will all take part in 'March Madness.'

Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Tulsa all learned their NCAA Tournament opening round opponents and sites Sunday night.

The Golden Hurricane, which is heading to the 'Big Dance' for the first time in 11 years, is a 13-seed and will square off with Pac 12 Tournament Champion, UCLA, Friday in San Diego. The Bruins won 26 games for first year head coach, Steve Alford.

The Golden Hurricane has a Tournament history with UCLA. Tubby Smith's 1993-94 squad knocked off the Bruins in Round One of the Tournament, 112-105. That Golden Hurricane team would go on to beat Oklahoma State and reach the 'Sweet 16.'

Oklahoma State will also open the Tournament in San Diego. The 9th-seeded Cowboys will face Gonzaga in the Round of 64. If the 'Pokes win, they'll likely get a chance to knock off number one seed Arizona Sunday.

The Sooner State's highest seeded team in the Tourney is Oklahoma. The 23-win Sooners are a 5-seed and will face North Dakota State in Spokane, WA Thursday.

OU is making its second straight trip to the NCAA's under head coach Lon Kruger.
