TULSA - Patsy Sutton, the wife of former Oklahoma State University basketball coach Eddie Sutton, has passed away at age 74.
She died Tuesday afternoon after suffering a major stroke Dec. 28 at a Tulsa restaurant.
Her sons Scott and Sean have been together coaching at Oral Roberts University, following Sean's stint at OSU as assistant for Eddie and later head coach for the Cowboys. Scott has been head coach at ORU for the past 12 years.
Mrs. Sutton was a fixture at her sons' basketball games, and in later seasons sitting with her husband at games for many years following Mr. Sutton's retirement.
Son Steve released a statement for the family.
"The Sutton family would like to thank everyone for the prayers and thoughts that have surrounded and been given to us the last few days we have been at St. Francis Hospital. We have a wonderful and cherished wife, mother, mother-in-law, friend and our honey. Thank you again for the outpouring of support you have given our family."
As soon as the news of Mrs. Sutton's death started spreading, many started sharing their thoughts on Twitter.

Oklahoma State University also issued their condolences. President Burns Hargis released this statement:
"We extend our deepest sympathy to Eddie, Sean, Scott and Steve at Patsy's passing today. She was a wonderful person who was deeply devoted to her family. While she played a quiet role, she nevertheless played a pivotal role in the success of her husband becoming one of the most respected and successful college basketball coaches of all times. And she was a strong and wonderful mother for her three sons. She will be deeply missed by her family and the Oklahoma State family. Our prayers are with the Sutton family at this time."
Eddie and Patsy had recently moved to Tulsa from Stillwater to be closer to their grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m. at First Methodist Church in Tulsa.
