Sooners eager to firm up defense for Bedlam against OSU Cowboys

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -- Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops says his team's defense must improve considerably before the Sooners host No. 22 Oklahoma State.

Stoops said Monday that No. 14 Oklahoma missed 20 tackles in a wild 50-49 win at West Virginia over the weekend. All those missed tackles allowed West Virginia's Tavon Austin to rush for 344 yards, more than any other player against the Sooners in Oklahoma history.

Oklahoma State (7-3, 5-2 Big 12) uses an offensive philosophy similar to that of West Virginia and the Cowboys feature the conference's leading rusher in Joseph Randle.

On the positive side for Oklahoma (8-2, 6-1), quarterback Landry Jones earned Big 12 offensive player of the week honors after passing for a school-record 554 yards and six touchdowns in the win.
