DALLAS - Something has to give when the Oklahoma State Cowboys and Purdue Boilermakers take the field New Year's Day at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.

OSU is a 17-point favorite, but the Boilermakers hold the advantage in previous meetings between the schools. And both teams come in to the game on two very different streaks.

WHAT'S AT STAKE
Oklahoma State is trying to avoid its first three-game losing streak since 2005. The Cowboys already have consecutive losses for the first time in three years, with losses to Oklahoma and Baylor to end the regular season. Purdue is going for its fourth consecutive win since a five-game losing streak that included a three-point loss at Notre Dame and an overtime loss at Ohio State.
Oklahoma State offensive line vs. Purdue defensive front. Even with three different starting quarterbacks, the Cowboys offensive line has allowed only 10 sacks all season. Two of Purdue's front-line defenders, end Ryan Russell and tackle Kawann Short, have combined for nine sacks and 22 tackles for losses.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Purdue: RB Akeem Shavers is the Boilermakers leading rusher with 778 yards and six touchdowns. The senior's best stretch was during the regular season-ending three-game winning streak, when he had 289 yards and three TDs.
Oklahoma State: WR Josh Stewart and RB Joseph Randle. Stewart has 96 catches for 1,154 yards and seven touchdowns. He had more than 100 yards receiving in four of the last six games, with 23 catches for 297 yards the last two. Randle is the Big 12's leading rusher with 1,351 yards (112.6 per game).

The only other meeting between the teams was in another bowl in Texas, the 1997 Alamo Bowl the Boilermakers won 33-20. ...
