| March 27 - 28 - Lori Dukelow, Asst. News Director & Ben Fisher, Executive Producer attended the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters 2008 | |||||
| convention in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In addition to two days of training they attended the OAB student appreciation | |||||
| luncheon where they had the opportunity to visit with students from universities around the state to discuss opportunities in broadcasting. | |||||
| April 27 - Steve Weinstein, News Director spoke to photography students attending the NPPA Region photo event on the campus of | |||||
| Oklahoma State University. | |||||
| July 23 - 26 - Steve Weinstein, News Director attended the Unity Conference as a representative recruiter of the Broadcast TV station | |||||
| group. This annual conference brings together the major journalism related diversity organizations to recruit minority students | |||||
| interested in careers in broadcasting. | |||||
| July 23 - 26 - Keidron Dotson, KJRH Reporter also attended the Unity Conference to network with students. KJRH contributed to his expenses. | |||||
| Mike Vrabac, Vice President/General Manager is a member and past President of the Tulsa Executive Association. The association | |||||
| is comprised of a group of 200 Tulsa Business Executives who meet weekly to discuss and exchange ideas and solutions to problems | |||||
| related to all business leaders. | |||||
| August - December 2008 - Rick Cohn, General Sales Manager served as an adjunct professor at the University of Tulsa teaching Media usage. | |||||
| October 18 - Steve Weinstein, News Director attended the Tulsa Association of Black Journalists awards luncheon to network with the | |||||
| organization's participants. | |||||
| February 13 - The News Director, General Sales Manager & HR Manager participated in the Communications career fair at the University of. | |||||
| of Tulsa. KJRH had a booth and talked with many communication students interested in a career in media. | |||||
| April 9 - The news Director, General Sales Manager & HR Manager participated in the Tulsa Metro Career Fair. KJRH had a booth to meet | |||||
| and interview students for internships & open positions. The all college career consortium hosted 120 Tulsa companies competing for college talent. | |||||
| November 5 - The General Sales Manager attended the Advertising job fair at the University of Tulsa to meet and discuss opportunities in | |||||
| television sales and marketing. | |||||
| * It should be noted that the career fairs KJRH attended in 2008 were firsts for this television station and represents our commitment | |||||
| to further our community outreach efforts. | |||||
| Shawn Brett, Art Director won the prestigious 2008 William R. Burleigh Award of $5000 for Community Service from the | |||||
| Scripps Howard Foundation. This is our third year in a row to win this award. | |||||
| Linda Gibby, Human Resources Manager oversees the KJRH Internship Program to assure compliance. | |||||
| Potential interns are asked to complete an internship application and submit a cover letter, resume and reference letter | |||||
| from their school internship advisor. The reference letter will indicate that the student is in good standing | |||||
| and will be eligible to receive academic credit for the internship. The length of the internship is determined by the Advisor | |||||
| and an evaluation is submitted by KJRH as required. Students from area colleges such as the University of Oklahoma in Norman, | |||||
| Oklahoma, Oral Roberts University in Tulsa and Oklahoma State University in Stillwater have participated in the program and students | |||||
| are occasionally recommended through the station's corporate parent. In addition high school students may be given the | |||||
| opportunity to "shadow" an employee of selected Departments in the station to help them gain valuable OJT skills that can help | |||||
| them to decide what field of broadcasting they wish to pursue in college. | |||||
| In 2008 KJRH partnered with Tulsa Technology Center and their new television production class for production interns. These interns | |||||
| will learn to operate studio cameras, run audio and other behind the scenes duties. Our first student was Brent Hoffman listed below. | |||||
