WAGONER COUNTY, OKLA--  Sheriff’s deputies tell 2 Works For You a non-profit organization approached the sheriff’s office about getting body cameras after it’s deputy-involved shooting in December.

They said body cameras have now become an industry standard for law enforcement. Deputies said right now, the sheriff’s office doesn’t have enough money to purchase the equipment on it’s own. But they said in order to show the community exactly what happens between deputies and the public, body cameras are needed.

“It’s a transparency tool, it hold the officer accountable, it holds the public accountable, it makes testimony in court much easier,” said Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Nick Mahoney.

They said the bodycameras.com organization is accepting donations for the body cameras. Officials said they’re hoping to raise enough money for 40 body cameras. They tell 2 Works For You, they’re not sure when they’ll have the body cams. It just depends on how quickly they get donations.
