Cinco De Mayo marks the day the Mexican Army defeated the French forces at the Battle of Puebla in 1862, however many people from all over the world, including Tulsans, celebrate the holiday with music, games, and fine cuisine.
Within downtown Tulsa, restaurants such as Elote Cafe and El Guapo's Cantina host large festivals shutting down nearby streets in order to accommodate the hundreds of visitors for Cinco De Mayo.
Between the two restaurants more than 5,000 people are expected to attend the festivities and party in order to commemorate an important day in Mexican history.
Live bands, face painting, luchador wrestling, and even chihuahua races will take place at this year's downtown Cinco De Mayo celebration and entry to each party is free.
