TULSA - A family is grappling with their new reality after their mother, 37-year-old Amanda Hood, died from injuries she received in a crash the day after Thanksgiving.

Cars swiftly pass on a Sapulpa road this afternoon, just like any other afternoon, but the reminders of a fatal encounter are still fresh.

“They told me she was unresponsive at the scene," said 18-year-old Maria Hood-Sanchez.

Her mother Amanda Hood died from her injuries days after a car crash the day after Thanksgiving.

“She did everything for us. Kind of super mom.”

Making a stop before going to buy her kids' Christmas gifts.

“She was on her way to come meet me to swap vehicles, so I was out in the front parking lot waiting on her to pull in," said her Fiance Hank Crutchfield.

He didn't know what loud noise he'd heard and couldn't believe what he saw.

“I could see she was still breathing, and everything like that. It just looked like she’s knocked unconscious.”

Reports from Oklahoma Highway Patrol indicate it happened on the intersection at Highway 117 and South 36th West Avenue.

“As she was pulling out to the main road to turn back around I guess she didn’t see them or misjudged the distance, and the other vehicle collided with her.”

OHP's report said she wasn't wearing a seatbelt, and the cause of the accident was her failure to yield.

“It really happened all so fast.”

Things weren't good at the hospital, her 18-year-old daughter forced to make an impossible decision.

“She would come home and tell me and her daughter, 'you never put me in a nursing home, you never put me in a nursing home.'”

“I didn’t want to have to make the decision but I’m glad it was me that had to," her daughter said.

They took her off of life support.

But Maria will never forget the life she lived, and one special feature.

“Her smile.”

Her fiance praying she can hear what he wished his last words to her would've been.

“I’m sorry and I love you."
