Toyota announces massive recall

TORRANCE, Calif. - Early Wednesday, Toyota Motor Sales announced a safety recall involving about 2.5 million cars, trucks and SUVs due to an issue with the driver's side Power Window Master Switch (PWMS).

The driver's side PWMS may exhibit what Toyota calls a "notchy" or sticky feel when used.  the switch assembly could melt and potentially catch fire if some commercial lubricants are used to lessen the sticky feel.

The fix is an inspection by the dealer, switch disassembly and application of a special fluorine grease.  It should take about an hour and will be performed at no cost to the vehicle owner.

A notification letter will be sent to owners later this month.

Twelve models built between 2007 and 2009 are affected by the recall.   They include certain Yaris, RAV4, Tundra, Scion xD, Scion xA, Sequoia, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, Carolla, Matrix, Camry Hybrid and more than 900,000 Camry models.
