Thousands attempt history for Guinness World Record Day

Thursday isn't just a day for the record books. It's the day for the record books.

More than 420,000 people across the globe are attempting to make history on Guinness World Records Day, according to the organization's website.

It's the eighth year for the bench-setting day.

With hours to go, dozens of records have fallen to the wayside for new marks.

Twenty-eight women fit into a Mini Cooper. A man bested his own world record by running the 100-meter dash in 17.47 seconds -- on all fours.

Another set a record live on The Today Show Thursday morning by wearing the most underwear in one sitting with 266.

The new records and their setters will be published in the 2013 Guinness World Records book.
