OVERLAND PARK, Kansas – A 4-month-old baby is recovering after, police say, a man attempted to choke the child while waiting in a checkout line.
The male suspect approached the mother of the child while they were waiting in line at an Overland Park Walmart, report officials. The incident reportedly took place around 7 a.m. on Wednesday.
He then grabbed the baby out of the cart and tried to steal the baby. A fight ensued, reports KSHB, and the suspect starting to choke the infant until its face turned red, report officials.
Bystanders told KSHB that other customers were able to subdue the suspect and keep him nearby until the police could arrive.
According to police, the mother of the child did not know the male suspect and there is a possibility the suspect was under the influence.
The infant is expected to be OK after being treated at the scene.
