Wagoner company hit by copper thieves over weekend; early estimates of damage near $100,000

WAGONER, Okla. - Business at a Wagoner company slows after thieves broke in and stole thousands of dollars worth of copper cable and other machinery.

Police say around 2,000 pounds of cable were cut or stolen from SC Piping & Mechanical over the weekend.

Because of the stolen and damaged equipment, some of the workers aren't able to do their jobs.

"We're looking at two weeks before I can get stuff back in full production," said the company's owner, Steve Costigan.

With missing equipment, damage and lost productivity, the company estimates a loss of close to $100,000.

"It kind of puts you in a paranoid state," said Costigan. "I don't like feeling that way."

Meanwhile, police are still looking for suspects.

"This doesn't happen that often in the city of Wagoner for something this large of a scale," said Detective Chris Edwards, with Wagoner Police.

The OSBI is assisting with the investigation.

Costigan is considering adding surveillance cameras.
