Third Okla. suspect arrested in 2011 homicide

SHAWNEE, Okla. (AP) -- A third suspect has been arrested in the 2011 murder of a homeless man in Shawnee.

Shawnee Police Chief Russell Frantz told the Shawnee News-Star that authorities tracked downed 21-year-old Anthony Neal Wood in Stillwater on Wednesday. Wood had an outstanding first-degree murder warrant from Pottawatomie County.

Wood, of Shawnee, and two others already in custody were identified as suspects in the 2011 homicide of 54-year-old Alan Wade Branscum. An anonymous tip and further investigation by Shawnee police led to detectives solving the case.

Branscum, an Arkansas native who was homeless, was found dead under a bridge in Shawnee on Aug. 6, 2011. The medical examiner says he died of blunt force trauma.

Wood, 19-year-old Leland Dale Blanchard Jr. and 23-year-old Keenan Allen Thorpe are charged in the case.
