Superintendent seeks federal waiver in place of Common Core standards

OKLAHOMA CITY -   State Superintendent Janet Barresi is seeking a federal waiver from the U.S. Department of Education in place of the repealed Common Core standards.

Waivers from some provisions of the 2001 No Child Left Behind Act are allowed in exchange for comprehensive state-designed education plans.

Losing the waiver would restrict 20 percent of the $500 million the state is receiving in federal funds for public education.
