OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A federal appeals court has affirmed the life sentences of an Oklahoma man convicted of two counts of first-degree murder in the shooting deaths of a man and a woman in 2002.
The 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals handed down the decision Thursday in the case of 32-year-old Mark Anthony Barnett of Spencer. Barnett was convicted by an Oklahoma County jury of the Nov. 5, 2002, shooting deaths of 48-year-old Stanley Johnson and 33-year-old Beverly Meadows.
Prosecutors say Barnett shot Johnson several times after an argument at a northeast Oklahoma City home. They allege he killed Meadows because she witnessed the shooting.
Jurors that convicted Barnett on the murder charges sentenced him to two concurrent life prison sentences. Davis is incarcerated at the Davis Correctional Facility in Holdenville.
