Undersheriff: Bethel Acres missing teen's truck found at center of Texas fatal shooting

ELLIS COUNTY, Texas - The truck of a 17-year-old Oklahoma boy who allegedly stole his parents' medication, 17 guns and up to 2,000 rounds of ammunition is at the center of a Texas deadly shooting scene Wednesday, a Pottawatomie County undersheriff has confirmed.

According to undersheriff J.T. Palmer, two men were shot and killed during an attempted robbery in Ellis County, just south of Dallas, Texas Wednesday afternoon.

This happened as Oklahoma authorities searched for the missing teenager from Bethel Acres, Kenneth Chaffin, who allegedly stole an arsenal of weapons earlier in the week.

Texas authorities said a homeowner shot one of two robbers on his property.

But it appears both men died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds, and authorities say they found one of the men dead inside Chaffin's pick-up truck.

Undersheriff Palmer said some of the weapons were found on scene.

Palmer could not confirm whether Chaffin was one of the two killed.

Roland Chaffin is still waiting to hear whether his son is alive. He reported the weapons missing himself.

"Just kind of disbelief. Just...a waiting game to find out if it was my son or not," he said.

Monday night, he says his daughter found the house ransacked. The Pottawattomie Sheriff's Office says nine handguns, six rifles and two shotguns were missing. Not to mention ammunition, medication and Roland's pick up truck were all gone.

He says Kenneth was nowhere to be found.

"We weren't sure until we put all the stuff together. The truck's gone, he's gone," Roland Chaffin said.

Roland says Kenneth had run away a few times before.

"You know why he left, we don't have a clue. We'll probably never know. Other than Kenneth's always butted my rules," he said.

Right now, Kenneth's family is waiting for answers.

"We're wanting to know, 'is it our son?' And just praying that it ain't," he said.
