Plaza on Cherokee Turnpike to close Monday

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Cherokee Service Plaza on the Cherokee Turnpike in Eastern Oklahoma is closing to the public at 6 a.m. Dec. 3.

Oklahoma Turnpike Authority spokesman Jack Damrill says the vendor elected to not renew the lease.

Motorists can find alternative fueling locations at two exits along the Cherokee Turnpike, at mile marker 6.2, near
Locust Grove, Okla. and at mile marker 28.5, near Kansas, Okla.

Motorists will find 24-hour fueling operations one mile north of the turnpike on State Highway 82, and at mile
marker 28.5, near Kansas, Okla., one mile south of the turnpike on State Highway 10, motorists will also fined 24-hour fueling operations.

Motorists are also encouraged to fuel their vehicles before entering the turnpike.

Meanwhile, Damrill says the OTA will continue looking for someone to take over the plaza.
