Pittsburg County remains found in 2012 identified after months of investigation as Timothy Peterson

QUINTON, Okla. - Remains found more than seven months ago in Pittsburg County have been identified, Muskogee County investigators have confirmed.

According to Coletta Peyton with the Muskogee County Sheriff's Office, the skull and arm bone found on a ranch near Quinton in December 2012 belonged to Timothy Peterson, a convicted rapist wanted for failing to register as a sex offender, assault and battery of his grandfather and two driving-related charges.

Investigators have not determined how the man died, but initial reports indicated his remains were more than two years old.

An Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation forensic artist performed a facial reconstruction (bit.ly/17FLP6g) from Peterson's remains in March.
