TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- A new program at Oklahoma State University will help Native American students in the science field.
The program is called Science Scholars: The Native American Path, and guides students at OSU in pursuing degrees in science, technology and the engineering and math fields.
The program is funded through the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science. The Stillwater student chapter of the group is one of 40 in the country and the only college chapter in Oklahoma.
In the fall of 2012, the society provided the school $40,000. The federal program is awarded funds through the National Institutes of Health.
The funds allow students to travel to the group's national conference, among other things.
