On Tuesday the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation received a request from the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office to investigate a possible homicide, which occurred earlier that day.
Monday at about 5:40 p.m., the OSBI said a jail staff member discovered an injured inmate, 55-year-old Artie Hales, on the 10th floor of the jail.
Emergency crews quickly responded to the scene and determined Hales was dead.
OSBI agents were called to the scene to investigate, and found Hale's injuries to be consistent with homicide. Officials are awaiting an autopsy from the medical examiner for an official cause and manner of death.
Hales was incarcerated March 11 on several misdemeanors, including littering, disorderly conduct and failure to appear, according to OSBI.
OSBI did not indicate at which jail the incident took place.
No one has been arrested at this time. OSBI plans to compile information from the investigation to deliver to the district attorney.
