Oklahoma's unemployment rate hits five-year low; lowest since 2008 at 4.9 percent

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Oklahoma's unemployment rate is at its lowest in five years.

The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission reported that the state's unemployment rate was at 4.9 percent in March. This is the first time since 2008 that unemployment has fallen below 5 percent.

Oklahoma has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the nation, because of the state's successful oil and natural gas industries.

The only sector to report job losses was in government, which lost about 1,700 jobs. The educational and health services sector gained the most jobs in March.
