OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma Sen. Brian Crain says it's time the owners of apartment buildings infested with crime and drugs are held accountable for the safety for their tenants.
The Tulsa senator is pushing forward a bill that would allow tenants or the State of Oklahoma to sue civilly.
"If they are notified of it and do not take measures to correct and provide public safety to those law abiding tenants, they can be held civilly liable for not providing a public safety issue," Crain said.
Crain is introducing a number of other bills, including one that would prevent the stalking of people running for public office. This after an intern for mayoral candidate Kathy Taylor was caught stalking Mayor Dewey Bartlett outside his home.
Thousands of bills will be introduced at the start of the 2014 legislative session next Monday.
