OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Oklahoma prison officials won't disclose where they are housing a former police officer convicted of raping and sexually victimizing women on his beat, saying the information must be kept secret for his own protection.
Former Oklahoma City Officer Daniel Holtzclaw was sentenced last month to 263 years in prison on 18 separate counts, including first-degree rape. He could be in an Oklahoma prison or in one out-of-state.
Corrections Department spokesman Alex Gerszewski (ger-SHESS-kee) said Monday that Oklahoma has agreements with other states to hold sensitive or at-risk inmates. He wouldn't say whether that applied to Holtzclaw.
Information about Holtzclaw -- including his photograph and details of his crimes -- has also been removed from the state prison system website.
Holtzclaw's attorneys filed notice Monday saying they will appeal his convictions.
