Oklahoma medical examiner's officer rules miscarriage a homicide

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The Oklahoma medical examiner's office has ruled an ambulance worker's miscarriage a homicide after a man she was trying to help allegedly assaulted her.

Oklahoma City Police said a paramedic for the Emergency Medical Services Authority who was 17 weeks pregnant was kicked and kneed in the abdomen by a 58-year-old man she was trying to help on Dec. 18.

The paramedic suffered a miscarriage about a month later. Police said Thursday that the medical examiner's office has ruled the death a homicide since it occurred as a result of the assault.

Oklahoma County's First Assistant District Attorney Scott Rowland said the police investigation into the incident is ongoing and that prosecutors haven't decided what charges will be filed in the case.
