OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Freezing rain and sleet are creating slick roads in Oklahoma, leading to a 21-vehicle crash in the Oklahoma City area.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Betsy Randolph says the pileup happened about 3 a.m. Tuesday. She says a semitrailer jackknifed on a bridge over the Oklahoma River. Cars began hitting the semi, and then other semis slid into them.
Randolph says the pileup involved 10 separate crashes with 21 vehicles. Three of those were semis.
Randolph says several people were taken to hospitals but no details are available on their injuries or conditions.
The highway patrol closed Interstate 40 in the area near its junction with Interstate 35. The roadway was reopened around 8 a.m.
Interstate 40 also is closed near Clinton in western Oklahoma because of overturned vehicles there.
