ADAIR COUNTY, Okla. - A former Westville softball coach was arrested Wednesday on charges of second-degree rape and sexual battery.
Tyler Lee Patterson, 27, was charged Wednesday with engaging in sexual relations with a 16-year-old student, according to court records.
According to police, officers were contacted Sept. 12 after school officials began an investigation that the coach inappropriately touched a student.
Officers met with the student and her mother, who looked through her daughter's Facebook messages with Patterson, which included pictures.
The student also claims that the two would "drive back roads together and just laugh and talk," according to court documents.
According to records, the two had sex "around ten times." Records also state the he received inappropriate pictures from the student and that they had "more than a player-coach relationship."
In a voluntary statement to police, Patterson said that he had an inappropriate relationship with the student. He resigned from the district Sept. 12.
The student claims that the relationship start in mid-summer when Patterson told the student that he was in love with her and couldn't be himself around his wife, records state.
Patterson is free on bond and a court date has not been set.
