OKLAHOMA CITY - Firefighters battled a grass fire that steadily climbed towards a housing addition Tuesday afternoon.

KFOR-TV reports the fire was near N.W. 164th and Meridian; drivers were cautioned away from the area. Crews from Oklahoma City and Deer Creek fire departments were called to the scene.

Smoke billowed into the sky, making it visible for miles, as multiple acres burned. Firefighters attempted to stop the blaze from spreading to a nearby housing addition.

Trees in the area made things difficult for crews, providing a second source of fuel.

Benny Fulkerson, with the Oklahoma City Fire Department, says strong winds can make it problematic for firefighters, but say the winds are not nearly as volatile as Monday’s weather.
