ENID, Okla. (AP) — An Enid police officer fatally shot a man who had allegedly threatened an individual and then confronted officers with a weapon.

Enid police said Sunday that 36-year-old Jimmy Wayne Birchfield had threatened a person who called police at 7 p.m. Saturday and that person's dogs.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting and the officer is on routine administrative leave.

Enid police didn't reveal what type of weapon Birchfield had or describe other circumstances surrounding the shooting, such as the relationship between Birchfield and the person who called police.
