Cushing animal shelter receives grant to change its euthanization method, eliminates gas chamber

CUSHING, Okla. - A Cushing animal shelter is changing the way they euthanize pets.

The city has received a $2,000 grant from the Humane Society of the United States to end gas chamber euthanizations.

Instead, the Cimarron Valley Humane Society in Cushing will transition into using an injection method, which is more humane.

Five other gas chambers are currently operating around the state, but legislation is pending that would end the use of gas chambers to euthanize animals.
