STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) -- A Stillwater man has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of manslaughter in the October 2012 beating death of another Stillwater man.
The Stillwater NewsPress reports (http://bit.ly/1gBWQtV ) that 28-year-old Christopher Dawes was sentenced to 20 years in prison after entering the plea Monday.
Dawes was originally charged with first-degree murder in the beating death of 32-year-old Jeremy Sutherland.
Defense attorney Royce Hobbs argued that the crime was one of passion. Testimony during the preliminary hearing said Dawes had been drinking at a party and passed out -- then awoke to find his girlfriend kissing Sutherland.
