POTEAU, Okla. (AP) - A Cameron man has been convicted in the 2009 murder of a Poteau bar owner.
61-year-old Raymond Larry Nichols was found guilty of shooting his former brother-in-law, 61-year-old Donald Joe Neff, to death.
According to prosecutors, Neff was shot in the back of the head outside his bar near Poteau. His body was left in a pond.
Nichols was arrested in connection with the murder in 2013 when the weapon he allegedly used was found in the same area that Neff's body was found.
After deliberating for four hours, the jury recommended a sentence of life in prison without parole.
A sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 10.
