OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The Oklahoma State Medical Examiner's Office in Oklahoma City was evacuated after a suspicious item was found on a body.

Oklahoma City Police Sgt. Gary Knight said the device found about 10:30 a.m. Friday appears to be a flare.

Knight said the body is that of a man killed in an auto crash on Interstate 40 on Thursday. He said there are "a number of possibilities" how a flare would wind up with the body, but he didn't want to speculate on a specific scenario.

Medical examiner's spokeswoman Amy Elliott said about 40 people left the building and Knight said the building remained evacuated early Friday afternoon while a bomb squad examines the device.

No injuries are reported.

Elliott said the device was discovered when employees unzipped the body bag.
