Blue green algae closes another swim area on state lake

SKIATOOK - Officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have announced the closure of another lake due to hazardous blue green algae.

Corps officials say the Twin Points Swim Beach at Skiatook Lake is closed and all water contact is prohibited.

Toxicity levels are being monitored at Skiatook as well as several other Oklahoma lakes.

Currently four other lakes have closed sections of their beaches because of BGA presence.  Those include Taylor Ferry at Fort Gibson Lake, Porum Landing at Eufaula Lake, and Cedar Creek Cove and Old Mannford at Keystone Lake.

The Porum Landing Recreation Area is open at Eufaula Lake but officials say all water contact is prohibited.

An algae warning is posted at Keystone's Feyodi Park but officials have not closed the area; however, they do say contact with water is unsafe for people and pets.

Advisories remain in effect for other areas of Skiatook, Keystone, Eufaula and Fort Gibson as well as Tenkiller.

Swimming, water skiing and other water contact is discouraged in those areas.
