TULSA - State and city leaders attended a Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II interactive cockpit demonstrator Friday in Tulsa.

Oklahoma Senator James Lankford and Congressman Jim Bridenstine both spoke about the benefits.

The F-35 is one of the world's most advanced fighter aircrafts.

Last year, state and local officials worked to bring an F-35 to the Oklahoma Air National Guard Base in Tulsa.

Members of an F-35 task force expressed to the Pentagon it wanted to base a fighter at the 138th Fighter Wing located at the Tulsa International Airport.

The only air national base to hold an F-35S currently is in Vermont.

Officials hope Tulsa receives the aircraft around 2023.
