The technology blog AllThingsD is reporting that Apple will pull the wraps off the next version of the popular iPhone smart phone next month.
The posting says the reveal will come during a special event on September 10. If true, the reveal of the new iPhone would come almost one year after the current model, the iPhone 5, was announced.
As is always the case with Apple, there is much speculation surrounding what features the next iPhone will have. There is also increasing speculation that Apple will release a "budget" iPhone or the long speculated smart watch, which many are calling the iWatch.
About the only thing that can be considered certain is that a new Apple mobile device will run the IOS 7 operating system, which Apple unveiled in June at the Worldwide Developers Conference.
The successor to Apple's current iOS 6 system, iOS 7 is currently being tested by developers. Apple has only said it will be released to the general public in the fall. That would go along with the report of a new iPhone announcement as the phone is generally released several weeks after it is announced.
While a new iPhone has long been anticipated, it is not clear if it will follow Apple's traditional naming for models and be released as the iPhone 5s.
