TULSA-- “Good preventative way to save your house from being burnt down,” said Homeowner Richard Martin.

Before freezing temperatures make their way into Green Country tonight, Richard Martin said made sure his chimney was clean.

“My wife solely instructed we will have a fire tomorrow. She likes the fires,” said Martin.

“Yeah we’re getting a lot of calls today, a lot of last minute people calling in,” said Clean Deans Chimney Sweep Owner Dean Schwoegler.

Dean Schwoegler of Dean’s Clean Chimney Sweep Service, recommends cleaning your chimney once a year to prevent residue from building up inside.

“The creosote that is the residue from burning the wood it can catch on fire and when it does, or if it does, it burns at a really high temperature, up to 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit so it can turn the chimney into a miniature volcano,” said Schwoegler.

Cold weather also create issues for you car. Mechanics suggest keeping an eye on your tires.

“Tire pressure, it’ll drop the air. When the temperature goes down, the air pressure in your tires will go down,” said Robertson Tire Manger Ethan Cantler.

Ethan Cantler also suggests making sure cars have enough anti-freeze to keep your car warm. And have an expert check your battery to ensure it has enough juice to start up your car.

“The battery could leave you stranded if if won’t start,” said Cantler.

Martin said he’s not worried about the cold tomorrow, because he knows he’s prepared.

“I’ve never had an issue, and I don’t want to have an issue so this is why we have it done,” said Martin.
